"Code Seven" in Wayfarer's Journal
My sci-fi story, "Code Seven" is up on Wayfarer's Journal. This story is set in my Rescue Sister's universe, but involved a young man, Paul, and his efforts to save the space station he calls home after a micrometeroid hits it.

"Christmas Spirits," a DragonEye, PI mystery for sale
I'm selling one of my DragonEye, PI stories, "Christmas Spirits" on the DragonEye, PI website.
When FlintCorp Developing threatens to destroy the businesses and homes of Territory to build a mall and luxury condos, neither Vern nor Grace are feeling the Christmas spirit. But when Flint is threatened by the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present, they put aside their humbug feelings in order to solve the mystery. Will they succeed before the Ghost of Christmas Future makes a lethal visit? And will their modern-day Scrooge have a change of heart?

I'm a-Twittering
I've taken the plunge and joined Twitter. I'll only use if for useful, fun stuff and updates on my books as well as Vern's best one-liners. The object is to entertain, and I can't imagine anyone is interested in what I have for breakfast.

Impromtu Book Signing
Ah, what making connections in a small town can get you. Here are Grace and I in a last-minute book singing at Main Street Books in downtown Minot. I've done signings at Valerie's store before, and she was very generous to just let us muscle in at the last minute.

October Issue of Faith-Filled Fiction
In this Issue:
* Faith in Fiction Follows Faith in Life
* Common Pitfalls in made-Up Religions
* Pentacostal Elements for Plots
Alas, I did not get any submissions for a faith-filled fiction calendar. Perhaps next year.

ISIG gets another review
I was very pleased to read this review by Ben Hughs on Infinite Space, Infinite God. Here're some excerpts:
The fifteen stories are split into seven sections. Each of them tackle a different area of Catholicism, weaving science fiction and religion together in a fascinating way which captivates the reader, making it well worth a read...
...The book includes stories which, in the main, don’t overtly try to squeeze Catholicism into stories they don’t fit and don’t ram religion down the reader’s throat. Instead the better stories are those in which religion is almost a peripheral aspect yet knitted together with the science-fiction almost seamlessly....
...Catholics are also refreshingly portrayed as ordinary people throughout the various stories...
Having already won the 2007 EPPIE award for best science fiction and come runner-up in the 2007 Preditors and Editors poll for best anthology, this book will go from strength to strength.
Far from highlighting divisions between scientific and religious points of view, Karina and Robert Fabian have expertly brought together fifteen thought-provoking stories to demonstrate that these two disciplines are closer than ever.
Thanks Ben!

ISIG story wins award
“Mask of the Ferret” by Ken Pick and Alan Loewen has been selected by the Washington Science Fiction Association as a finalist for the 2008 WSFA Small Press Award for Short Fiction!
The award honors the efforts of small press publishers in providing a critical venue for short fiction in the area of speculative fiction. The award showcases the best original short fiction published by small presses in the previous year. An unusual feature of the selection process is that all voting is done with the identity of the author hidden so that the final choice is based solely on the quality of the story.
The winner is chosen by the members of the Washington Science Fiction Association (www.wsfa.org) and will be presented at their annual convention, Capclave (www.capclave.org), held this year on October 17-19 in Rockville, Maryland.
